Who sets the tax bill on a Conroe address

Montgomery County describes itself as sitting on Interstate 45 about forty miles north of downtown Houston, with Conroe as its county seat ¹. Inside city limits, the city says property taxes are billed in October and become delinquent after January 31 of the following year. The Montgomery County Tax Assessor-Collector collects the city’s taxes, and the Montgomery Central Appraisal District determines values ⁵.

The city rate is only one line on a bill. The state’s property tax transparency page explains that each taxing unit adopts its own budget and rate, and it links every county’s Truth in Taxation site where those rates are posted ⁶.

History first: the San Jacinto River Authority and the City of Houston built Lake Conroe between 1969 and 1973 as a backup water supply, and Houston owns two-thirds of the reservoir’s water rights ². Today SJRA’s lake division licenses residential docks and boat slips, permits bulkheads, and inspects and permits on-site sewage facilities around the lake ².

Conroe ISD lists its offices at 3205 W. Davis St. ⁴. Its Find Your School Zone page sends you to the district’s My Ride K-12 lookup, which returns the assigned school for an address ¹⁰. TEA’s statewide School District Locator is useful for a first look, but TEA says its boundary positions are approximations, so confirm the assignment with the district ¹¹.

For flood research, Montgomery County Floodplain Administration publishes an interactive floodplain map and regulations meant in part to make sure buyers are told when property is in a flood hazard area ¹². Then pull the effective flood map for the exact address from FEMA’s Map Service Center ¹³.
